This movie turned me into a gay porno addict. Back in '95, for no particular reason, I picked up a copy of Bad Boys Ball. At that point, I didn't know who any of the models were. I'd only seen a handful of porn flicks, none by any of the major studios. But after seeing Jeff Hammond's burglar routine and Kris Lord's tantalizing Roman orgy striptease, I became a lifelong fan of both models and just had to get my hands on a copy of every single video they made.
    Bad Boys Ball is equal parts documentary and softcore stroke flick. Shot in November of 1993, it follows Kris Lord, Jeff Hammond, Tom Katt and Rev Sutton. They're performing a live strip show called "The Bad Boys Ball" at one of London's top gay nightclubs. Madonna's impact on the world at large is in evidence. Like her Truth or Dare documentary, the backstage footage is shot in black and white while the performance footage is shot in color.
    There aren't many videos like it, so it does earn points for originality. However, it is a bit uneven. The erotic footage scores a solid 9.5 out of a possible 10 on the Peter Meter. (I took off half a point because I couldn't get enough. Thank God for the pause button.) The documentary element on the other hand is a bit weak.
    The producers take a rather gutless swipe at the porn industry during one interview segment. Fans will be disappointed to know that Kris Lord and Jeff Hammond were bitter about their early years doing hardcore. They don't mention any names, but anyone familiar with Kris Lord's videos will know which company he's talking about. I'll let you figure it out, but it won't be hard since he only worked for two different companies. The producers do little to counter their negative view. Although Tom Katt, the savviest cast member, doesn't seem to be all that bitter.
    This segment, which comes at the end of the video, is immediately followed by a climactic montage of The Bad Boys stripping. I'm not sure if the irony was intentional.
    Jeff Hammond gives the most impressive exotic dance performances. First, we get to see him strip out of a skintight cat burglar costume and prance around the stage in a leather thong with his bloated, semi-erect cock dangling between his legs. The size prompts one excited audience member to exclaim, "Is that thing real?!" I especially loved it when Jeff strips down to nothing and climbs into bed so he can hump a pillow. Yum! Towards the end of the video, he does a second number where he shakes his ass in a toga that barely covers his body.
    Tom Katt gives a prescient interview where he talks about hardcore movies going mainstream. By the mid-90s, millions of people the world over started bringing hardcore into their homes. (Hey, I'm talking about you, pal!) And by the end of the '90s hardcore sex hit the art houses in movies like Baise Moi and Romance (which co-starred straight porn star Rocco Siffredi). At the club, competitive bodybuilder Tom Katt models his smooth, bulging muscles for an appreciative crowd with a little support from a group of g-string wearing go-go boys.
    Of the four leads, Rev gets the least amount of face time. Too bad because he's cute and has a sexy New York accent. His segment begs the question, "How does a straight acting, ultra-butch New York hunk get into gay porn anyway?" The world may never know. He's also the only lead who doesn't do full frontal. However, he does let some of the audience feel him up after he strips down to a jockstrap.
    For the finale, Rev, Jeff and Tom dress up like Romans with a group of slave boys feeding them wine and grapes. Then Kris Lord makes an appearance dressed as a Roman God--the God Priapus I presume. Everything about this man is huge! Huge chest, huge shoulders, huge thighs, and, best of all, huge cock. It looks to be about as thick as my wrist. Kris does a classic striptease, walking around the stage in a gold toga with nothing underneath, which gradually falls off his body. He's only totally nude for a few seconds, but we get to see it looped from multiple angles.
    The DVD extras include a six minute slide show of exclusive Greenwood/Cooper images. It's presented in two formats--one with music, the other without. The slide show includes pictures of Johan Paulik among others. Unfortunately there are no still images from the feature presentation.
    Since this is a documentary I think a model update is in order. Kris Lord's hardcore career ended in 1992. He has since faded into obscurity, but his fans still love him. (Fans who buy the Kris Lord Supercock can love him even more!) Jeff Hammond, who is also adored by scores of internet fans, appeared in hardcore videos as late as 1996. According to the rumor mill, he eventually went back to school in the Midwest. Tom Katt retired from porn in 1998, but made a glorious comeback in 2001 in Crash of the Titans. As for Rev... Well, he's not listed on rame.net's Dead Porn Star List, so I'll hope for the best.
